AWANA
Dear CBC family and friends:
Over the past years, CBC has enjoyed hosting the ministry of AWANA. It is a wonderful program that is based on 2 Timothy 2:15, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth” (NASB). The acronym AWANA stands for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed. The goal is to train children not to be ashamed by training them to be approved to God.
AWANA takes a considerable amount of volunteers. There are teachers, listeners, helpers with snacks, and games – not to mention the Commander, secretary, and other “official” positions that take substantial amounts of time.
Over the past few years, some of the teachers in AWANA have become overwhelmed with the ministry load of AWANA. But without more people coming in to help, the same people have continued to serve. We have not been able to offer these precious servants a break.
This is why the leadership of CBC has decided not to host AWANA at CBC for the 2009-10 year. We pray that this will only be a one-year break. We would like to reconsider for the 2010-11 year, if God provides the leaders and servants needed to make this ministry effective.
On AWANA’s website (http://awana.findlocation.com), you can input your zip code to find nearby churches that offer AWANA. I can assure you that there are several options for you to consider for your children.
Again, we regret that we had to come to this decision. We have prayed about this decision over the past several months, and we really believe that this is what God would have us to do for the current time.
We would love to have your children join us on Sunday morning and evening, if your family is not currently worshipping at another church. We have various Sunday School classes and children’s church on Sunday morning. On the first, second, and fourth Sunday evenings of every month, we have an informal children’s class that meets at the same time (6:00 – 7:30 PM) as the corporate Bible study. Your children are invited to join.
