Preaching Ministry
Of all the voices competing for our attention, the only one we really need to hear is God's. God speaks to us today through His Word which shows us how to be saved: "The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul" (Psalm 19:7a). His Word gives us wisdom: "The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple" (Psalm 19:7b). His Word is powerful: "For the Word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword" (Hebrews 4:12). And it gives us true riches: "I rejoice at Your Word as one who finds great treasure" (Psalm 119:162). God has said it all! No mere man can add to that which has been declared by Him. The philosophies and wisdom of men are vain to meet the needs of the soul. The only preaching of eternal value is that which declares what God has said in all its glory. Our normal practice on Sunday morning is to preach through the word of God in an expository, verse-by-verse manner. This is consistent with the model practiced by Paul: "Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all men. For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God" (Acts 20:26-27). He also prescribed the young preacher Timothy to do the same: "I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word!" (2 Timothy 4:1-2). We are presently in a study of the book of Romans. Come join us as we look at this great Pauline epistle which unveils the Gospel of God! Preaching the word of God enables us to "proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light" (1 Peter 2:9). The Bible is the greatest masterpiece that the world will ever see and it is our privilege to unfold it one verse at a time. It is imperative that every believer read the Word on a regular basis. A daily diet of God's Word feeds our souls and provides food for thought throughout the day (cf. Colossians 3:16). Instead of allowing the world to influence and to conform our minds, we should be transformed through the renewing of our mind (cf. Romans 12:1-2).
